Overview

Major carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx) have certain items that they are unable to ship. Since carriers do not accept these items, Saltbox will also not be able ship these items unless you are working exclusively with regional and last mile providers that have different regulations. 

Carriers also have heavy restrictions on certain items that may limit the methods available to ship (ground vs air) or the quantity/size able to be shipped in a single shipment. Building code may also restrict the amount of hazardous material that can be stored in a building to meet fire safety code. For these types of items, Saltbox reserves the right to review these items on a case-by-case basis. Unless otherwise noted, not receiving pre-approval for these items will result in them being placed in our Flex Storage area at a cost of $5/pallet/day until qualifications for shipping can be reviewed by both parties or until they are picked up by the member.

Finally, due the the limited of the space within Saltbox's MFCs and the lack of power equipment, we also have additional restrictions on the SKU dimensions we can take in these locations. 

A list of all items that have restrictions are below. Further context on these restrictions or details about the policy exception can be found in the headlined sections below

• Item volume > 5832 cubic inches (MFC only)
• 48 inches long on any individual side (MFC only)
• 45 lbs (MFC only)
• Antiques (whether or not breakable and fragile)
• Perishable goods (exceptions apply)
• Firearms & explosives
• Used tires
• Plants, birds, fish, other animals, or any other living thing
• Arms or ammunition
• Any item which emits fumes, smells or odors
• Bullion (e.g., gold-silver) jewelry
• Currency, ivory, precious metals or stones
• Any drugs, illegal substances or goods, or goods or substances illegally obtained (see details about cbd, alcohol, and vaping products below) 
• Combustible or flammable materials, liquids or compressed gases (exceptions apply)
• Diesel, petrol, oil, gas, artificial fertilizer or cleaning solvents, chemicals, radioactive materials or biological agents, toxic waste, asbestos or other materials of a dangerous or harmful nature
• Any other items, the possession, usage, transport or storage of which may detrimentally affect any other products or violate in any way the laws of the United States or any individual state, or any other applicable laws, rules, regulations, or shipment carrier policies or guidelines .

Oversized Dimensions

Saltbox MFCs operate within a smaller fulfillment space and therefore, there are restrictions on the size of the products they can effectively store, pick, pack, and ship. These are the maximum dimensions and weight allowed within an MFC. 

• 5832 cubic inches. To find cubic inches, multiply the Height x Width x Length.
• 48 inches long on any individual side
• 45 lbs

There are no exceptions to this policy within a MFC, but these limits do not apply to our Hubs or our Workspaces.

Perishable goods 

Perishable goods in this context means any item that must be stored at a lower temperature than the ambient temperature within our MFCs and Hubs. Saltbox MFCs do not have refrigeration. For outbound shipments, adding dry ice is not possible, either. Therefore, as a policy, we do not accept perishable goods that require refrigeration.

Policy Exceptions

• The member will provide refrigeration and store in a Workspace location.
• Cold storage not required during shipment or ice packs can be used.
• The member plans to exclusively deliver using last mile providers.
• The member is comfortable that in the unlikely event of a power failure. Saltbox is not liable for any resulting damage to the items

CBD (oil, supplements)

Depending on how CBD is derived, it can be considered as part of a marijuana classification, making it illegal to ship to many states based on state law. CBD that contains less than 0.3% THC and is derived from hemp as opposed to cannabis is able to be shipped by UPS, FedEx, and other major carriers including USPS. If you wish to also use USPS (First class parcel and priority mail) to ship your CBD product, the industrial hemp producer must possesses a license issued by the Department of Agriculture, for the state where the post office/acceptance unit is located, which includes documentation identifying the producer by name and showing the mailer is authorized by the registered producer to market products manufactured by that producer. Saltbox must be provided with a copy of documentation proving the above requirements have been met.

For any product that does not meet this requirement, Saltbox cannot store and ship the product from our MFCs and Hub.

Alcohol (beer, wine, liquor)

Alcohol is heavily restricted across carriers and cannot be shipped with USPS. Additionally, individual state permitting requirements and restrictions vary greatly for the storage of alcohol. For these reasons, we cannot store or ship alcohol within our MFCs or Hub at this time. Any inbound delivery received with alcohol we reserve the right to refuse at the door to return to sender.

Vaping products

Vaping products are generally restricted across carriers and certain cities and states ban certain vape products from being shipped to their residents entirely. For these reasons, Saltbox cannot arrange for the shipping for the majority of vape products within our MFCs or Hub at this time.

Per UPS: Any electronic device that, through an aerosolized solution, delivers nicotine, flavor, or any other substance to the user inhaling from the device, including but not limited to e-cigarettes, e-hookahs, e-cigars, vape pens, advanced refillable personal vaporizers, electronic pipes, as well as any component, liquid, gel, part, or accessory of such device, without regard to whether the component, liquid, gel, part, or accessory is sold separately from the device.

Policy Exception

If you have existing carrier relationships that permit vape shippingand can assume full liability for meeting all regulations of the shipping destination, Saltbox can work with you to integrate with your carriers with our WMS to perform shipping.

Perfumes/Fragrance

Perfumes and fragrances are flammable liquids that require specialized storage and hazmat shipping. Due to these requirements, please review your needs with the Saltbox sales or support team prior to sending these items in to receive approval and pricing. If these items are sent into us unannounced, we reserve the right to place them in our flex storage area at a charge of $5/pallet/day until they are picked up or we've had the opportunity to work through shipping requirements. 

Policy Exceptions

If items meet the following requirements, they do not need advanced notice before arriving at our locations. To prevent any delay on receiving, let our team know in advance that your perfumes meet the guidelines below

• The perfume does not contain alcohol.
• For USPS shipping: The individual bottle contains < 30 mL and the full package contains no more than 500 mL.
• For UPS shipping: The individual bottle is <192 mL.

Cleaning Products

Many cleaning products are flammable liquids that require hazmat shipping. Cleaning products may also emit strong fumes that when stored with other items may permeate the product, especially in the MFCs where there is limited space to physically separate these items.

Due to these requirements, please review your needs with the Saltbox sales or support team prior to sending these items in to receive approval and pricing. If these items are sent into us unannounced, we reserve the right to place them in our flex storage area at a charge of $5/pallet/day until they are picked up or we've had the opportunity to work through shipping requirements.

Policy Exception

• MSDS is provided for the product noting it does not contain chemicals making it flammable and it does not emit fumes

Lithium Ion Batteries

Lithium Ion batteries have an increased risk of fire (flammable)- because of this, carriers classify them as Hazardous materials. Depending on the battery size and how it is packaged, shipping requirements vary greatly. As a general requirement, lithium ion must be< 100 Wh and lithium ion cells <20 to be able to ship the item. Always let us know prior to shipping us Lithium Ion battery ions so we can be sure the correct automation rules are in place to perform the required labeling

Battery shipped within or with powering equipment

Example: Laptop

In order to ship with air methods, the package must weigh less than 11 lbs (UPS) or 5.5 lbs (USPS). Otherwise, the package may only ship with ground methods. 

For UPS, additional labeling is required for the shipment. To ship with USPS methods, additional labeling and more robust packaging requirements are required to ensure safe transport. Final pricing for these items will be determined in your review process based on all requirements to ship out your items 

Battery shipped outside of powering equipment  

Examples: USB Charging Bank

1. Only ground methods are permitted (ex: Parcel Select Ground, UPS Ground). Air Methods (USPS First class, Priority Mail) are forbidden

2. Package may not exceed 5 lbs (USPS) or 66 lbs (UPS)

3. No international shipping

4. Additional labeling required- Final pricing for these items will be determined in your review process based on all requirements to ship out your items
