Cross-docking at Saltbox

What cross-docking is at Saltbox, how to set it up, and what it costs.

Cross-docking means moving a shipment through your Saltbox location without settling it into long-term storage — freight comes in at the dock, gets staged, and heads back out. At Saltbox, this isn't a separate plan you sign up for. It's something you put together from the workspace and services you already have access to, with your location team.

How members handle cross-docking at Saltbox

Depending on the shipment, cross-dock flows usually combine a few of these:

  • Your workspace and dock access to receive and stage the freight.

  • Flex Storage if any of it needs to sit for a short window before it ships back out.

  • S.O.S. (Saltbox Operations Support) when you want our team to handle the unload, restack, or reload rather than doing it yourself.

  • Saltbox Fulfillment if the freight needs to be broken down, picked, packed, and shipped rather than moved as-is.

How to set it up

Cross-docking is coordinated with your location team so we can plan the dock, timing, and any labor. Reach out to your Location Manager ahead of the shipment with:

  • Trailer type and length, and the estimated arrival date and time.

  • Contents — weight, dimensions, and number of units.

  • Whether it's pallet-loaded or floor-loaded, and live unload or drop trailer.

  • Whether you'd like S.O.S. labor for the unload or reload.

So we can keep everything tracked and visible, inbound freight is logged in our system just like your other packages.

What it costs

Because every cross-dock is a different mix of space, storage, and labor, cost depends on your shipment. Your Location Manager will walk you through the pieces — dock time, any Flex Storage, and S.O.S. hours — and what to expect before your freight arrives.
